Kenosha police chief has 90 days to investigate taser incident

KENOSHA — The Kenosha Fire and Police Commission wants the police chief to investigate whether an officer used his taser inappropriately.

The Commission is giving the police chief 90 days to prepare a report regarding a recent incident where an officer used his taser on a suspect, after the incident was caught on dashcam video.

An officer was called to the scene of a fight in Kenosha. Dashcam video shows just 15 seconds after getting out of his squad, the officer pulled out a taser. That caused the suspect to fall flat on his back.

The man being tased is 32-year-old Keenan Smith. Four months later, FOX6 News showed him the dashcam video for the first time.

“I didn’t even know they had showed up. Before I knew it, I just see me on the ground,” said Smith. Smith says he did not have time to react.

Smartphone app designed to alert drivers approaching a speed trap

KENOSHA COUNTY — A new smartphone app is designed to alert drivers when they are approaching a speed trap — but is using this app legal?

19-year veteran Kenosha County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Peck knows the roads he patrols well. Peck recently took FOX6 News along on patrols of County Highway E in the Town of Somers.

“It’s a 35-mile-per-hour zone. It’s one of the major roads heading off the interstate, towards the city of Kenosha,” Peck said.

Peck says drivers along this flat stretch of road seem to forget to slow down.

During patrols, at first, drivers were behaving, and Peck even let some speeders by. However, it wasn’t too long before someone flew by and was stopped by Peck.

The 19-year-old driver was traveling 18 over the limit, and received a citation from Peck.

Probation for Kenosha teen in attempted suicide pact

KENOSHA (AP) — A 17-year-old boy charged in an attempted suicide pact with a friend has avoided prison time in Kenosha County.

Luke Adcock, of Salem, was sentenced to two years of probation in an agreement with prosecutors. Adcock was accused of helping a teenage girl try to commit suicide with a knife before attempting to take his own life in December 2011. Both teens are okay.

Adcock was initially charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He pleaded guilty to attempted assisted suicide and aggravated battery.

Attorneys agreed to probation for Adcock because he was otherwise a “typical teenager,” with near-perfect school attendance and an otherwise spotless record. Judge Mary Wagner agreed.
